From humble beginnings…

I know it seems cliche but for us it couldn’t be more true. When I loaded up a pickup truck with a grill a couple tables and a cooler full of meat to compete in a backyard chef contest, my wife and co-owner Jenn was apprehensive to say the least. Especially, when I reported back that we didn’t do very well at all. But the following year I packed up the truck again determined to prove that I could compete. I had a much better phone call home after the contest and was happy to report that we had won. Another win the following year made me hungry for more. After doing some Googling, I found the Kansas City Barbecue Society. A whole new world opened up to me. I had no idea that there was a professional circuit of BBQ contests. The practice began immediately trying to learn everything I could about the art of que. At our first contest in Lowell in 2009 we received 8th place in ribs and 10th place in brisket. We were immediately hooked. Over the past 10 seasons Sweet Racks & Smokin’ Butts BBQ have heard there name countless times and have been the last team on the awards stage twice.

We’ve been all over this great country tasting que of just about every imaginable style. One thing I’ve always known is, Michigan has it’s own unique style, and in my opinion , without a doubt some of the best BBQ you can get.
